Frequently Asked Questions

I’m passionate about helping people overcome anxiety and other emotional and behavioural problems to achieve what they want from life.

I was a professional actress for over 15 years before becoming a psychotherapist. I was often anxious before going onstage. I would torture myself with “what if” thinking. I didn’t think I was good enough. During rehearsals for an upcoming tour, I saw a therapist who helped me overcome stage-fright and enabled me to choose my optimum state before going onstage. I can remember on the first night walking out onstage and being handed a rattling cup and saucer by a nervous actor. I took the cup and saucer firmly, looked out at the audience and realised it had worked. I felt free, confident and in control. I was so impressed by this that I went on to train as a therapist.

I know that dealing with anxiety issues on your own can be challenging and so I now specialise in helping others overcome them.

I have over 25 years experience as a therapist and have a BA Hons Degree in Music and Drama and an MSc in Psychotherapy. My training encompasses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema (Parts) Therapy and Hypnotherapy. I use an integrative approach that is tailored to the individual.

I have a wide range of experience with clients from a variety of backgrounds, having worked within the NHS as a Psychotherapist and several private clinics, including The Priory Hospital Roehampton. I offer therapy online or in person at my private clinic in Kingston.

I specialise in anxiety problems.

I was a junior tennis champion and a professional actress/musician before becoming a therapist and so have a particular interest in the treatment of performance anxiety (stage fright, interviews, concerts, presentations, examinations). I have worked with many actors, singers, musicians, sportsmen and executives to maximise potential and attain goals.

I also specialise in treating single incident trauma such as car accidents and assaults. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma. See Supporting Therapies.

I combine hypnosis with psychotherapy and a range of other techniques. See Supporting Therapies.
We start with a plan of two sessions. If that is all we need, fantastic. If there is value in additional work, of course, that is an option. My goal is to give you the most effective process with the most efficient use of your time.

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of a trance state which occurs normally between sleeping and waking. The trance state is used to make deep and lasting changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Hypnotherapy is very effective in releasing past trauma and de-conditioning habits.

Even though our subconscious only ever seeks to promote our well being, it can often be the recipient of faulty learning from the past, leading to low confidence, under achievement and sometimes worse. Often it over-protects us by raising our fears and anxieties to phobic levels to keep us from a particular activity or stimulus it sees as dangerous. Using hypnosis in a therapeutic way, hypnotherapy can facilitate a subconscious relearning process.

ACTING: “Nicola helped with issues such as feeling confident when going for job interviews, something actors always agonise about but just end up praying to anyone to save them from the nerves and useless readings! And learning lines. And very importantly because she knows that actors are often out of work with very little spare cash, she charges a reduced rate for actors. This made the visits possible for me. Nicola was always exceedingly professional and a great listener.” Jemma C, Actress
